Prisca Hill is a babysitter from North Augusta, South Carolina who is being hailed as a hero after she fought off a rabid fox when it attacked 7 year-old Daniel Thompson on July 25.

Prisca and Daniel were playing outside on that hot summer day when the fox suddenly appeared out of nowhere. They thought the fox was just curious at first, but then it became apparent that something was very wrong.

“When it first came out; foxes are really curious animals so I figured that it just wanted to look at the house until it attacked us. I really had no clue it was rabid or anything like that,” said Prisca.

The fox quickly went on the attack, and though Daniel leapt into a tree to get away, his feet were dangling and the fox was able to bite him.

“Then I saw the fox jump up and grabbed onto it and dangled in the air and it was ripping open my skin and tearing out the meat,” Daniel recalled. The boy went on to describe how painful the bite was.

“You know how it feels when one bee stings you? It feels like three more bees stinging you,” the boy said.

Prisca, who was higher up in the tree, knew that it was up to her to save Daniel.

“So I hung down from my branch and kicked the crap out of this thing and it grabs onto my foot,” she said. “So, I turned around, grabbed it by the neck and threw it as far as I could into the woods and it hit the ground, running. Then, it came back around and grabbed onto his foot again.”

Undeterred, Prince went after the fox with her hat.

“So I jumped out of the tree onto it and started beating it with a hat and it took the hat and ran and I chased it down and it ran under this deck right here,” Prisca recalled.

“No, I was just really mad at this thing,” she added with a laugh.

While the fox was distracted by the hat, the two youths were able to get inside the house.

Animal control was called and they were able to catch the fox, who was promptly put down. Testing revealed that the fox was indeed rabid, and both Prisca and Daniel were given rabies shots within two hours. Though they still have to get more shots, they say they are both fine.

“I’m 100 percent good,” Daniel said as he smiled.
