Firefighters risk their lives every day to keep those in their community safe. The sacrifices firefighters make every day were shown once again last month, when firefighters from all over the nation travelled to Colorado to help contain the wildfires at Lake Christine and launch relief efforts for the community.
Afterwards, legendary singer Neil Diamond decided to do something very special to show these brave firefighters just how grateful he is for what they did.
A resident of Colorado, Diamond saw firsthand what these firefighters were doing. Though his recent diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease forced him to cancel his January tour, Diamond decided to give a performance for the firefighters and their families to show them the appreciation they deserve.
“Now you have to save my house,” Diamond said jokingly as he stepped up to the microphone.
“I want to take you all home,” Diamond told the firefighters. “I want to give you a kiss. I want to make dinner for you. I just want to say thank you from the people of this area … I’ve been here for 20 years, and you made everybody happy. The heaviness on our hearts is gone … We thank you for making the trip and to our local guys as well.”
Diamond then went into a beautiful rendition of ‘Sweet Caroline!” After video of his performance went viral, Diamond assured his fans that he will be releasing new music in the future, though he will remain retired from touring.
We applaud Neil Diamond for doing something amazing to give back to these brave firefighters! Check out his performance below, and SHARE this story so your friends and family can see this as well!
