Meghan Markle’s 37th birthday is coming up, and this one is very special for her, as it is her first birthday as a member of the British royal family.
It’s been reported that Meghan is planning to spend her day socializing with the other royals at a high society wedding in Surrey, British Columbia. Now, it’s been revealed that Meghan makes a special wish on her birthday every year that is inspired by her beloved mother, Doria Ragland.
“My mom has always said that birthdays are your own personal New Year,” Meghan said in a 2016 interview. She went on to talk about her own struggles with insecurity and personal identity. The future Duchess of Sussex talked about “grappling with how to fit in” during her teen years, saying that “my high school had cliques: the black girls and white girls, the Filipino and the Latina girls.”
Meghan then described her 20s as “brutal,” characterizing this decade as “a constant battle with myself, judging my weight, my style, my desire to be as cool/as hip/as smart/as ‘whatever’ as everyone else.”
As she entered her 30s, however, Meghan finally started to embrace who she was.
“I am enough exactly as I am,” Meghan said.
That’s why Meghan pays tribute to her mother on her birthday every year by asking women around the world to give her one special gift.
“I want you to be kind to yourself,” Meghan said. “I want you to challenge yourself.”
“I want you to stop gossiping, to try a food that scares you, to buy a coffee for someone just because, to tell someone you love them … and then to tell yourself right back,” Meghan added. “I want you to find your happiness.”
This just goes to show that on the inside, Meghan has always been a royal!
