If you watch any of the news today, it becomes pretty easy to convince yourself that there is no good left in the world, but when one Aussie builder stepped in to help an elderly gentleman at McDonald’s it will renew your faith in humanity.

The builder, Dave Love, offered to pay for the older man’s order alongside his own order. The footage of the incident was secretly filmed by Dave’s partner, Melanie Langley. She said when she posted it to Facebook that it melted her heart when she realized what he was doing.

“Your true character is revealed when nobody is watching,” she says. “Oh, and you wouldn’t believe it, his surname is LOVE. He bought this old man’s coffee, breakfast, and gave him $20.”

During the exchange between Dave and the pensioner, the elderly man tells Dave that there’s still some nice people here and Dave jokingly tells him the change is going to weigh down his back pocket as the man puts his change away.

The man initially refused Dave’s kind offer, but after some insistence, he finally tells Dave thank you. Then Dave headed back to his partner unknowing that she had been filming the entire scene.

When she asked what he had been doing, he replied, “I’m helping the old fella out. He’s down on his 20 bucks. He’s standing there with a whole heap of change. He’s a pensioner and he’s old, so I paid for his meal and I gave him $20. It is what it is, honey, it’s life.”
