Members of the U.S. military make huge sacrifices for their country, as they put their lives on the line for our freedoms. Their families end up making major sacrifices as well, since they are forced to say goodbye to their loved ones and be separated from them for lengthy periods of time.

Lt. Michael Lemmons was serving overseas in the U.S. Navy when his wife gave birth to their son. Lemmons was actually one of twenty-seven crew members who missed the birth of their children while they were serving their country.

A heartwarming video is now going viral showing the moment that Lemmons laid eyes on his son for the first time. The serviceman’s eyes lit up as soon as he saw his wife waiting for him holding their son. Overcome with emotion, Lemmons said to her, “He’s perfect. Thank you.”

When his wife heard her husband express his gratitude to her, she could not help but burst into tears. She knew that her husband had been away doing a lot of difficult things as he served his country, yet he still appreciated the hard work that she had to put in alone back at home.

People all over the world have been touched by this video in many different ways.

“My husband was aboard the US Bataan when they were deployed for ten 1/2mns,” one social media user wrote. “They had around 150 new dads when they got home and from my understanding that wasn’t including the Marines.”
