A New Jersey cop just happened to be in the right place at the right time. A man was just seconds away from being struck by an oncoming commuter train when the cop was able to grab him just in time.

The passenger was wearing a red polo shirt and dark green shorts and was lingering in the middle of the tracks as a New Jersey Transit train was flying down the tracks towards him.

Perth Amboy Patrolman Kyle Savoia shouts at the man in the video below while screaming to stop the train. The man manages to get off the tracks with just moments to spare.

The train came to a halt just a feet from where the man had been standing. The man, who appeared to be in distress, sat down with the help of Savoia. The man then thanked the officer for saving his life.

The man’s name hasn’t been released and no one knows why he had been sitting on the tracks. He was taken to the Raritan Bay Medical Center for treatment.

Savoia says it was simply his job to make a quick decision in a difficult situation and to act on those decisions. “All that matters is everyone gets home safe,” he said.

He says he is glad that he was able to make such a big difference in someone’s life at such an early stage in his career. Officer Savoia says making a difference is why he loves being a cop.

“The opportunity to save people in need makes me love what I do every day,” said Savoia. Officer Savoia is following in his father’s footsteps, who served on the force for 28 years before his death.
