Captain Alyssa Golembeski says she was shocked when she and her ambulance crew got a very welcome surprise after working an exhausting overnight shift. The crew was eating breakfast at the local IHOP restaurant when they got the surprise.

The medics, who are on the Toms River First Aid Squad of New Jersey had just finished eating when they asked for the check so they could pay their bill. Instead, the crew got a receipt with a note that said, “Thank you for all you do! Have a great day! – Recovering Addict.”

The anonymous woman had picked up the $77 tab for the crew and they couldn’t believe it. An emotional hush came over the normally boisterous bunch of medics. Golembeski and the other five members of the crew asked the manager who the woman was, but he said she didn’t want to be identified and that she had already left the restaurant.

“It was just a reminder that there is still so much good in the world. The note and paying for our breakfast…we are a boisterous bunch but that brought our table to complete silence,” said Golembeski.

Although the First Aid Squad wasn’t able to thank the woman properly, they posted a picture of the note on Facebook with a caption thanking the woman for her kindness and wishing her luck on her road to recovery.
