Wayne Robbins and his family were enjoying the day on Fontana Lake in North Carolina on July 14 when they saw something in the water heading toward their boat. A passenger was able to capture a video of the terrifying scene.

What was slithering toward their boat? A rattlesnake. You can hear the moment everyone catches a glimpse of the snake and they realize what it is. The snake swims quickly across the water and straight toward their boat.

“Drive now!” one of the children yells as the snake attempts to climb onto the boat. The snake makes it onto the back of the boat and pauses before Robbins is able to shoo it away and back into the water.

Robbins says he and his family have been on the lake twice and this was the first time they ever encountered a timber rattlesnake like the one they saw in the water that day. He says the encounter still didn’t stop his family from getting in the water that day.

Experts say rattlesnakes can swim, and timber rattlesnakes are capable of swimming on top of the water’s surface as this one in the video does, as well as underneath the surface of the water. Yikes!

Check out the video of the incident below and be sure to share it with your family and friends.
