It has just been revealed that Meghan Markle won’t be participating in a major American tradition if she ends up having children with Prince Harry.

Royal expert Victoria Arbiter said that Meghan will not be throwing a baby shower if she gets pregnant, as this is forbidden by the British royal family.

“They [royal family members] are clearly very wealthy, and a lavish baby shower would be seen as highly inappropriate,” Arbiter said in 2013, when Kate Middleton and Prince William were expecting Prince George. “There’s nothing they can’t go out and buy themselves.”

Arbiter went on to say that while British royals can’t accept gifts before the births of their children, they can can accept tokens of well wishes from family and friends who come to visit their babies after they are born.

The British royal family has many unique traditions when it comes to a child being born. For one thing, they never reveal the baby’s gender ahead of time, instead releasing a basic “we’re expecting a baby” announcement.

Once a new royal is born, the Queen must be notified first, followed by senior members of the royal family and other immediate family members before the news is released to the public. The birth announcement is always posted outside of Buckingham Palace before it is posted on social media.

We can’t wait for the day when Meghan announces that she is expecting!
