Richard Karoliussen and Eve Jourdain love orca whales so much that they founded the research group Norwegian Orca Survey. During a recent outing, they came across some killer whales, and Richard could not resist whistling to them. What happened next is nothing short of amazing!

Whales use various sounds like whistles and clicks to communicate and navigate, so they were probably confused at first. However, they were also so curious that they decided to stay in the area and play.

The non-profit group took to Facebook to say that the orcas “played around the boat for hours.” The group also posted an amazing video in which the orcas pop out of the water, look around, then go back under only to resurface elsewhere seconds later. You can see their entire bodies at some points as they dance around in the water, showing off everything from their heads and dorsals to their white bellies! It’s clear that these orcas are having the time of their lives!

Capturing orcas behaving this way was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for Richard and Eve! The video below will definitely have you wanting to head up to Norway and book your very own whale watching adventure!

Videos like this serve as a reminder of just how amazing whales really are. It’s so cool to watch humans effectively communicating with whales and creating bonds despite the fact that they are different species!
