Ricky Spaulding is a well-loved janitor at Anderson County High in Lexington, Kentucky. He’s a nice man that does a ton of stuff for everyone else, but someone very special had been missing in his life for over a year.

His son had been stationed in Italy for over a year. Ricky also had a new grandbaby he had never met, but working as a janitor hadn’t allowed him to have the extra cash to spend on a plane ticket to go see the baby.

A trip to Italy would have been too expensive for he and his wife, so the staff at the school came up with an amazing idea. For weeks, unbeknownst to Ricky, the school had been collecting donations. They had asked parents and raised money through a variety of means.

Together, the staff, parents, and students had been raising money to help Ricky and his wife get to Italy to be with their family. After raising a whopping $1,900 they decided to surprise Ricky in a very special way.
