Zoey Catherine Daggett was just three years old when she was diagnosed with a rare, incurable brain tumor. On July 4, Zoey took her last breath in the comfort of her own home secure in her father’s arms.

Her mom, Casey, says they knew it was going to come sooner than later, but nothing can ever prepare you for it. She says they first realized something was wrong when Zoey fell at a park leaving her limping around clumsily. A week later she began losing mobility in her hand.

A trip to the emergency room revealed that Zoey had a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma tumor. This type of tumor typically affects children ages 4 to 10 and there less than a one percent chance of survival.

Knowing their time with their daughter was limited, the couple spent the next two years doing anything and everything they could that might increase their daughter’s chance at survival. They even sought treatment in Germany after exhausting all options in the U.S.

Eventually, they helped Zoey make a bucket list and helped her mark off as many as possible. She tried her hand at cheerleading, attended children’s camps, and even met Disney princesses.

In late June, Zoey’s health began to go down hill quickly and her parents knew the end was near. On July 4, a nurse captured a photo of Zoey’s final moments with her parents. They were watching a movie together and before the movie was over, Zoey took her last breath.

Her parents say that Zoey was always a ball of energy and their focus is now on celebrating their daughter’s life in a way that she would have loved. Help them share her amazing story and keep her memory alive by sharing this story with your family and friends.
