“Top Gun” is known as one of the most classic films of the 1980s, which is why Americans everywhere are ecstatic that a sequel is in the works! With filming currently in progress, and the film set to be released on July 12, 2019, fans everywhere were extremely excited when the first image from the movie was just released to the public.
The photo shows Tom Cruise back in uniform as he holds his iconic helmet with “Maverick” printed on it.

The sequel is set to be called, “Top Gun: Maverick,” and Cruise is to be joined in the film by Val Kilmer, who is reprising his role of Iceman. It has just been announced that the cast will have a new addition that is sure to make the movie even more exciting!
Everyone remembers the character of Goose, whose tragic death in the original movie left viewers heartbroken. Fans will be happy to know that Goose will indeed be playing a role in the sequel, even though the character is no longer alive.

Goose’s son is set to be a major character in the sequel, and it has just been announced that he will be played by Hollywood star Miles Teller, who is best known for his roles in movies like “Divergent,” “Fantastic Four,” and “That Awkward Moment.”

The role of Goose’s son was sought after by many young actors, including Glen Powell and Nicholas Hoult, but Teller managed to beat all of them out to get it.
Director Joseph Kosinski has opened up a bit about what the plot of the sequel is, explaining that it will be different from the original because a lot has changed since the 1980s.
“The navy is very different now than it was in 1986. Back then, they hadn’t been in any war for 15 or 20 years at that point. The tone of that movie and what those guys were doing was very different,” Kosinski said. “Now, here in 2017, the Navy’s been at war for 20 years. It’s just a different world now, so you can’t remake the first movie.”

“That being said, I certainly want to recreate the experience of that movie, which gives you a front-seat into the world of Naval aviation and what it’s like to be in a fighter jet,” Kosinski continued. “The approach is going to be appropriate for the times we live in.”
