Angela Hartung was crossing a busy New York City intersection when she was hit by a car. She spent a month in a coma after her accident, and when she woke up, she had no memory of the past 15 years of her life.
Angela knew she had children, but she thought they were still young when in reality they had both grown into young adults. She also thought she was still married to her first husband, but he had died years earlier.
She also didn’t remember her current spouse, Jeff, at all. Despite the heartache of having his spouse not know who he was, Jeff was determined to persevere through the strange circumstances. He did everything he could think of to help her remember.

He lined the walls of their home with happy memories and photographs so when she came home, she would feel comfortable. He also courted her all over again so that she would fall in love with him like she did when they met the first time.
Although some people might not agree, Jeff says the experience was a blessing in disguise. He says people often wish they could go back and do it all over again so they can do something different, and he says he got that opportunity.

Jeff’s actions worked. Five years after her accident, he and Angela renewed their wedding vows in Central Park.
