A Mexican woman just fulfilled her lifelong dream of graduating from middle school after she was forced to drop out as a child because of how poor her family was.
Esther Lozano, 78, celebrated her graduation in a mock ceremony that was held in her garage with her family. She decided to return to school after her husband passed away.

Her granddaughter Ashley Macias explained that Esther grew up in a small town in Jalisco, Mexico, and that she has faced many obstacles in her life.
“After marrying my grandfather [at 16], she was disowned by her own family for marrying into an incredibly poor family,” Ashley said. “She didn’t care though, the love she had and has for my grandfather – even after death – was worth more to her than money or luxury.”
Esther and her husband lived in a small shack, and she stayed home to raise their family.
“She always wanted to go back to school, but she had eight children to take care of and after they were all married and moved out my grandfather became ill,” Ashley said. “His kidneys were malfunctioning and he had to have dialysis three times a day, so she didn’t have a chance to go back to school until my grandfather passed away.”

Ashley added that Esther has no intention of stopping her education here.
“She is determined to keep going until she has finished high school,” she said.
