In the United States, it often feels like military veterans do not get the respect that they deserve for all the sacrifices they have made for their country. When 12 year-old Preston Sharp noticed this, he decided to do something about it.

Preston was furious when he visited his grandpa’s grave in Redding, California and found that not every veteran in the
cemetery had a flag.

“Yeah, I was surprised,” Preston said.

His mother April said she had never seen him that angry before.

“Not this angry and passionate,” she said.

When he went to his mother about this, she told him, “Son, if you’re going to complain about something, you have to do something about it or let it go.”

Preston took this to heart and immediately started taking on odd jobs and soliciting
donations to buy flags and flowers for every veteran in his grandpa’s cemetery. Once this cemetery was covered, Preston moved on to a new one, then another one after that!

Three years later, Preston has covered an estimated 65,000 veterans’ graves with American flags!

“They were out there in the rain doing their job, protecting us,” Preston said.

Preston has set up his own Facebook page, Preston Sharp/Vet flags and Flowers and others have joined his operation as well. Vietnam War veteran Fred Loveland is one such person who has joined Preston’s efforts.

“It’s amazing,” Loveland said. “What he’s doing brings them out because they can’t believe
a young man in this country is doing what he does.”

We want to applaud Preston for doing something amazing to make sure veterans are given the respect and honor that they deserve! SHARE this story so your friends and family can see this as well!
