Going to college isn’t cheap. Tuition at a public university can rack up thousands of dollars in student loans, but for some students, the University of Memphis is doing their part to make sure that these special students get the education the deserve.
Starting this fall, the University of Memphis will become the first college in the country to accept the Folds of Honor scholarship. This gives $5,000 to students whose parents were killed or severely injured while enlisted as active duty service members.
The school will accept the $5,000 as payment in full making tuition for spouses and children of fallen armed service members free. The Folds of Honor recipients who haven’t graduated, as well as those who arrive at the school in the future, will be taken care of.

“They’re attending a school that acknowledges the sacrifices a family has made to protect their freedoms,” President of the board at UM David Rudd said. The goal is for these students to no longer have to worry about finding a way to pay for the remainder of their education.
Rudd, who is a veteran himself, says that the university has been intentional about serving military families. The Tennessee Higher Education Commission named the University of Memphis a VETS Campus in 2015 as one of 12 institutions in the state to be recognized for their service to student veterans.

How amazing is that! We applaud this beautiful way of supporting the children of fallen soldiers especially because they have sacrificed and endured so much. If you agree, be sure to share this story with your family and friends.
