What appears to be an abandoned piano propped up against a tree on a dreary rainy day quickly becomes the joy of a traffic warden as he strolls the street out doing his job. The warden walks up to the piano and looks to see if anyone will notice if he picks out a tune on the ivory keys. Before you know it, he’s dancing along to a tune he’s pounding out all over the keys of the lonely piano.

Things aren’t quite what they seem in the video below. The traffic warden is really professional piano player Brendan Kavanagh, professionally known as Dr. K. He is a proponent of public performances and routinely plays the piano in public places while dressed in costume to appear like an average joe. His performances are recorded and published on his YouTube channel, Brendan Kavanagh, for viewers of all ages to enjoy.

In this particular performance, Dr. K. belts out a boogie-woogie tune. Boogie-woogie originated in Texas in the 1920’s and spread to big music hubs like Chicago and St. Louis. While the tunes are notoriously heard on piano, they can also be sung by a soloist or a group of people. However you hear them, the upbeat tunes are popular among people of all ages.

Dressed as a traffic warden, his attire for the dreary day works well. The bill of his hat keeps the mist off Dr. K.’s glasses, and the tilt of the piano keeps the keys relatively dry, although we’re not sure it would matter. He’s obviously got some mad skills when tickling the ivories.

The video below has over 360,000 views. Dr. K.’s YouTube channel has over 89,000 subscribers and you can see over 200 of his publicly recorded performances on his site. Check out the video below to see for yourself why this professional pianist is such a hit.
