When Argo the German Shepherd joined the Hildago County Sherrif’s Office in 2009, it was immediately apparent that he was a huge asset to the police force. Argo was partnered with LT Francisco Guerrero, and the dog became certified as a Narcotics Detection Dog. Argo thrived at his new job, and he was credited with taking thousands of pounds of drugs off the streets.

All was going well until Argo was diagnosed with bone cancer. When the veterinarians gave Francisco the news, he was forced to make the difficult decision to have Argo be put down. He knew that this would be the best thing for Argo, so he arranged a small and intimate ceremony for his fellow officers to give Argo the goodbye that he deserved.

What happened at this ceremony left the entire room in tears. As is tradition in the law enforcement community, a final call was dispatched over the radio congratulating Argo on his years of bravery and service to this country. Argo’s response to all the love he is receiving truly does warm my heart. While it’s clear that Argo is ready to say goodbye, it is also obvious that he knows how loved and appreciated he was in this life. After all the sacrifices Argo made to keep his community safe, it’s great to see him be given all the love that he deserves in return!
