If you look online for healthcare advice, you have to be careful what you believe. From fad diets to homemade treatments, not all of it can be believed. Such is the case when one Texas mom posted her secret for healing a sunburn, it was a shock when she got the thumbs up from doctors.

Cindie Allen-Stewart’s secret went viral when she shared on Facebook that she can cure a sunburn within a few hours using a product from her medicine cabinet. The secret cure is nothing more than menthol shaving cream.

Allen-Stewart says spreading the foam on the burn works much faster than most other treatments like cold compresses. Plus, her skin rarely peels after a burn because shaving cream is a great moisturizer, and doctors agree.

She says to have someone put it on their hands and then rub it on your burned skin. Let the foam soak on the burn for 30 minutes or so and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. If the burn lingers the next day, repeat the treatment.

The ingredients of shaving cream are very moisturizing according to doctors and the menthol cools and soothes the pain of a nasty burn. Doctors do warn that the cream won’t treat the inflammation and redness as well as some some medicines like low-potency steroid creams.

Doctors also warn that leaving the shaving cream on too long could cause acne. If you have a severe, blistering burn, you should see a doctor rather than trying to treat the sunburn yourself. They say the best treatment is still prevention by using sunscreen. Rest and rehydration if you do suffer from a sunburn.
