Earlier this week, we reported that Meghan Markle had celebrated her fortieth birthday by releasing a new video of herself promoting her latest initiative. Unfortunately for Meghan, however, this has since blown up in her face, as she’s been left humiliated over the fact that the public has universally ignored her birthday plea.

In her birthday video, Meghan promoted 40×40, an initiative in which she asked her fans to “spread the word, share how you’ll devote your 40 minutes, and encourage your friends to do the same.”

“For women who give everything, we give our time. Are you in?” her initiative continued.

Meghan’s website even features a caption suggestion for fans to use that reads, “To celebrate The Duchess of Sussex’s 40th birthday, I am devoting 40 minutes of mentorship or service to a cause I care about.”

“Please join me in donating your time,” it adds. “Together, we can contribute to a global wave of compassion and positive change. #40×40 #CompassionInAction.”

Unfortunately for Meghan, however, very few people actually took action for her plea. The Express reported that in the 24 hours after the video went up, just 217 public posts on Instagram shared the 40×40 hashtag. This is a truly dismal figure for Meghan, who was undoubtedly hoping that her plea would go viral.

Meghan had gone all-out in promoting her initiative in her video.

“Over two million women in the U.S. alone and tens of millions around the world have lost their jobs due to Covid,” Meghan said. “And I think if we all do it and all commit 40 minutes to some sort of active service, we can create a ripple effect.”

“40 friends, activists, athletes, artists, and world leaders to help kickoff a global effort,” she added.

Meghan also promoted the initiative on her Archewell website.

“Amongst the most valuable gifts of time is also time spent in service to others knowing that it can contribute to incredible change,” Meghan wrote. “To that last point, and with my 40th lap around the sun in mind, it made me wonder: what would happen if we all committed 40 minutes to helping someone else or to mentoring someone in need? And then what would happen if we asked our friends to do the same?”

“I believe mentorship is one way to help women regain confidence and rebuild their economic strength, and for my birthday, I have asked 40 friends, activists, athletes, artists, and world leaders to help kickoff a global effort by contributing 40 minutes of mentorship to support women re-entering the workforce,” she added. “With this time, I hope they each help someone advance a professional life on her own terms, and, I hope that they inspire countless others to give 40 minutes of their time as well.”
