Last week, we reported that the comedian Kathy Griffin had announced that she has lung cancer, and that she needed to undergo surgery for it. Now that her surgery is complete, Griffin took to Instagram this week to debut her new “very hoarse” voice.
“Hi, you guys. I might start to post little videos about, like, my recovery and stuff, but my voice is, like, really hoarse,” said Griffin, 60. She added that she hopes her newfound raspiness doesn’t “scare people.”
“I’m laughing. It’s just even that notion,” she continued. “Also, for some reason, I laugh at everything now. And if it’s horrible, I laugh way more!”

Griffin had updated fans on her surgery last week.
“To be honest, this cancer surgery was a little more than I had anticipated. Tonight will be my first night without any narcotic pain killers. Hello Tylenol, my new best friend!” Griffin began.
“With over a year clean and drug free, I now know I can do this and anything I want without those devil pills,” she continued. “Y’know what? I fear drugs and addiction more than I fear cancer. So, I think I’ll be OK.”

Griffin had revealed to the world that she has cancer in another Instagram post on Monday.
“Yes, I have lung cancer even though I’ve never smoked! The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung,” she wrote. “I should have normal function with my breathing.”
Griffin opened up further about her cancer in an interview with ABC’s “Nightline” in which she also revealed that she battled a pill addiction last year. Things reportedly got so bad that Griffin considered killing herself.
“I thought, ‘Well, I don’t even drink… Big deal, I take a couple pills now and again, who doesn’t?’” she said. “Also, my age was a big part of it. I mean, who bottoms out and tries to take their life at 59?”
“It’s almost a joke, right, and by the way, someday, this will all be comedy,” she added. “Trust me… I was laughing to stay alive. And what I found is I felt like if I can’t make others laugh, then there’s no purpose for me to live. There’s no reason for me to live.”
Thankfully, Griffin has managed to get her life back on track, and she is ready to fight cancer with everything that she has.
“The irony is not lost on me that, a little over a year ago, all I wanted to do was die,” she said. “And now, all I wanna do is live.”
