A royal expert is speaking out this week to say that Prince William and Kate Middleton are eager to keep their 7 year-old son Prince George “out of the limelight” after he was hit with some “very harsh” criticisms from a young age.

The Express reported that royal expert Robert Jobson said that George got a lot of attention on social media this week during England’s opening goal in the Euro 2020 final.

“With George, he got quite a lot of social media attention,” Jobson said. “Some were critical about him wearing a shirt and tie like his dad which I thought was very harsh. He has been very popular but I think they are going to try and keep him out of the limelight a little bit. They are very conscious of that. The pictures were great with his dad when he was celebrating for that all too brief moment.”

George was photographed online looking nervous as England lost on penalties to Italy on Sunday. Royal expert Rebecca English shared five photos of George looking worried as the soccer game went to penalties.

“Prince George sums up the mood of the nation #penalties #Euro2020Final #ENGITA,” English captioned the photos.

Social media users responded by ruthlessly mocking George.

“Hahahahahaahahahaha hope the little twerp cries into his tie,” one user wrote, with another adding, “Doesn’t sum of the feeling in Scotland. And this royal turnout is supposed to make Scotland want to stay in the union? Absolutely not.”

Thankfully, other Twitter users were kinder to George.

“I can’t, this is the cutest, I’m melting,” one person commented. “Prince George hugging his mom The Duchess of Cambridge at Wembley.”

“That footage of Prince George celebrating with his mum and dad was perfect,” another added.

George is fourth in line for the throne behind his father and grandfather, Prince Charles. He is the oldest child of William and Kate, with his younger siblings being Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Given the fact that George is set to be king someday, it’s especially crucial that he have the right kind of upbringing. Here’s hoping his parents are successful in shielding him from the negative side of social media.
