Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were given an award this week for their decision to have only two children by a British charity that is committed to limiting family size to help save the environment.

Page Six reported that Population Matters will award the couple, who welcomed their second child Lilibet one month ago, the equivalent of $695 for their “enlightened decision” to limit their family to two children and for serving as “role models for others.”

“Having a smaller family reduces our impact on the Earth, and provides a better chance for all our children, their children and future generations to flourish on a healthy planet,” the charity said in a statement. “We commend the duke and duchess for taking this enlightened decision, and for affirming that a smaller family is also a happy family.”

Meghan and Harry said back in 2019 that they were planning to have “two maximum” children to reduce their impact on the environment. Their first child Archie was born in May of that year, and he now has a little sister in Lilibet.

Harry opened up about having two children at the end of last month when he made a surprise appearance at the 2021 WellChild Awards in London. There, he talked to his fellow dad Ed Sheeran about parenthood.

“Congratulations, a girl, right?” Sheeran asked Harry, according to Hello Magazine. “We just had a little girl [daughter Lyra] ten months ago now. You’re still in the trenches now! How do you manage with two?”

“Two is definitely a juggle,” Harry replied.

Harry also reportedly told one guest at the event, “We’ve been lucky so far, she’s very chilled and seems happy to just sit there while Archie is running around like crazy.”

Meghan and Harry were ecstatic to announce Lilibet’s birth last month.

“She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe,” the couple said in a statement posted to their website. “Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

“Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet,” they said in their birth announcement. “Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”
