Meghan Markle’s estranged father Thomas has broken his silence in the wake of his daughter and her husband Prince Harry announcing the birth of their second child, a baby girl they have named Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

“I am very pleased with the announcement of the safe and healthy delivery of my new granddaughter, and I wish her and her mother all my love and best wishes,” Thomas said in a statement obtained by Daily Mail.

Though Thomas lives just seventy miles from Meghan and Harry’s mansion in Montecito, California, he has not spoken to his daughter since before she married the royal three years ago. Thomas has never met Harry in person, nor has he met his two year-old grandson Archie.

In her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey back in March, Meghan claimed that she feels that her father “betrayed” her and she “found it hard to reconcile” with him.

“I look at Archie, I think about this child, and I genuinely can’t imagine doing anything to intentionally cause pain to my child,” she said.

Thomas fired back by denying the claims Meghan made before calling Harry “snotty.” He then said that he’d apologized “100 times” for doing a deal with a paparazzi photographer before the Royal Wedding in 2018, which is what reportedly led to the estrangement, as he also begged the couple to see him with Archie.

“We all make mistakes – but I’ve never played naked pool or dressed like Hitler like Harry did,” Thomas said, referring to some skeletons in his son-in-law’s closet.

Thomas also recently slammed his daughter for cutting him off, saying, “The biggest problem here is she’s pretty much ghosted all of her family.”

“The bottom line is she didn’t lose me, she made a statement saying she lost me, she didn’t lose me, I would’ve always been there for her, I’m there for her now if she wants me,” he lamented.

“I’d like to say again,” Thomas continued. “I’m sorry for what I’ve done. This was two years ago. But I’ve tried to make it up to her. I’m now only 70 miles away. I’ve never stopped loving her. I don’t agree with all the things that my children they do. But I will always love them. And I certainly love Meghan.”
