Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck shocked the world last month when they rekindled their romance seventeen years after they called off their engagement. Now, a source has come forward to reveal why Lopez and Affleck are more “hopeful about their relationship” this time around as they give it another go nearly twenty years later.

“J.Lo and Ben are very much a couple and have been telling friends that they’re together,” the source told Entertainment Tonight. “When they first reconnected, they had to see if the spark was still there because it had been a while. It was, so now they are both fully in it.”

The source added that the couple has “talked about the past and why things didn’t work out.”

“They are both hopeful about their relationship this time around and putting the effort in,” the source explained. “They have both matured and are on the same page and it has been easy.”

“Jen is elated and really trusts Ben. Ben is more traditional and low-key in his values and Jen is into that,” added the insider. “She likes that they can go on dates and have fun. She also thinks that Ben is extremely smart and has a lot of great input.”

While Lopez appreciates the input she is getting from Affleck, she is also determined to keep their business and personal lives separate for now.

“J.Lo and A-Rod were always investing together and mixing business with their relationship and Ben is less into that,” the source said, referring to Lopez’s ex-fiancé Alex Rodriguez. “They are just genuinely enjoying each other’s company and having a great time. Jen is very supportive of Ben and his career, but she is also connected, successful and has her own life.”

Affleck and Lopez first started dating in 2002 and became engaged the next year, regularly making headlines in the tabloids at the time under the couple name “Bennifer.” They ended their engagement in January of 2004, going on to marry others and have children before divorcing their respective spouses.

Another source told Fox News that the couple is leaving “no stone uncovered” as they launch their romance again.

“They’ve flipped the rock and are now seeing how far they can throw it,” the insider said. “Basically, they have unfinished business.”
