Earlier this week, we reported that Bill and Melinda Gates shocked the world when they announced that they are divorcing after 27 years of marriage. Now, it’s been revealed that Melinda warned her husband never to interact with the late billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein again after they met with him back in 2013.

Sources close to the situation told the Daily Beast that Melinda was “furious” after they met with Epstein at his Upper East Side townhouse in September of 2013. This meeting was a turning point in Bill’s relationship with Epstein after Melinda told him how uncomfortable she was around the sexual predator.

Bill became friends with him in 2011 after Epstein pitched a fund to the Gates Foundation and JP Morgan. While Bill is believed not to have invested in it, and he has claimed he never did business with Epstein, the two men met with each other on several occasions after that. Epstein had already spent a year in prison for soliciting child prostitution at the time that they met, but he was welcomed back into the upper echelons of New York society.

After their first meeting, Bill emailed his colleagues about Epstein, saying that “his lifestyle is very different and kind of intriguing although it would not work for me.” A spokesperson for Bill has since said that he “was referring only to the unique décor of the Epstein residence – and Epstein’s habit of spontaneously bringing acquaintances in to meet Mr. Gates.”

“It was in no way meant to convey a sense of interest or approval,” the spokesperson added.

Melinda met Epstein two years later, and it is unclear if she disliked him personally or was uncomfortable with his prior sex crime conviction. Nevertheless, she told her husband that she wanted him to have nothing to do with Epstein.

“I can’t make the claim that so many are claiming. If you ask Bill Gates, he’ll say, ‘Oh I had absolutely no idea he wasn’t up to anything of the highest moral character,'” said one source. “But I seriously doubted Epstein’s moral character. The people around him had a varying spectrum of what they knew and what they didn’t know and how they rationalized it.”

“A a lot of people were uncomfortable with Epstein, completely independent of his [sexual misconduct],” this insider continued. “He just was an obnoxious guy. He almost made a point of having bad manners, not paying attention at dinner… I could see how anybody, even without suspicions, would not want to be around him.”

This comes days after Bill and Melinda announced that they are divorcing, as their marriage is “irretrievably broken.”

“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” they said in a statement. “Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives.”

“We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives,” their statement concluded. “We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”
