Meghan Markle is being accused of being a hypocrite this week after she penned a children’s book celebrating fathers despite the fact that she has not spoke to her own dad since before she got married to Prince Harry in 2018.

Meghan said that her children’s book “The Bench” was inspired by Harry’s relationship with their son Archie, who turns two on Thursday. Illustrated by Pixar artist Christian Robinson, Meghan claimed that the 40-page book grew from a poem she wrote for Harry one month after Archie was born in 2019.

“That poem became this story,” Meghan said. “Christian layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolor illustrations that capture the warmth, joy and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life.”

“This representation was particularly important to me and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens,” she added. “My hope is that ‘The Bench’ resonates with every family, no matter the make-up, as much as it does with mine.”

Publisher Penguin Random House released a statement saying that the book “touchingly captures the evolving and expanding relationship between fathers and sons,” adding that it “gives readers a window into shared and enduring moments between a diverse group of fathers and sons.”

The fact that Meghan wrote a book about fathers and their children is ironic given the fact that she and Harry are not on the best of terms with their own fathers. Meghan has not spoken to her dad, Thomas Markle, since before her wedding in May of 2018, and Harry has not been on great terms with Prince Charles after telling Oprah Winfrey back in March that his dad is “trapped” in the royal family.

“It’s very easy to talk about relationships between fathers and sons when they are two years old,” royal biographer Penny Juror told The Sun. “But problems come when the children are older — as Meghan found out with her father and Harry with Prince Charles.”

“So it is an odd thing to have done,” she added. “She is on dodgy ground because of her relationship with her father and Harry with his. But it is also a very schmaltzy book by the sounds of it.”

Angela Levin, Harry’s biographer, agreed with this assessment.

“Once again we have the hypocrisy of Meghan and Harry saying one thing but not doing it themselves,” she said. “I don’t know how you can write about a boy, a son or a father, when you haven’t spoken to your own father for years. It is extraordinary.”
