A royal expert is speaking out this week to warn Meghan Markle and Prince Harry that the United States is starting to turn on them, and that their fairytale is “wearing thin.”

Lee Cohen, who was an expert on Anglo-American matters for the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, wrote in an oped for The Sun that Americans were initially on Meghan and Harry’s side, believing that the blame for what happened between them and the royal family “must lie anywhere” but with the couple. However, he added that “recent events” have sparked “more critical assessments” of Meghan and Harry in the U.S.

“On both sides of the Atlantic, everyone loves the Cinderella story. But as they have gotten to know Meghan, the Brits saw what she really was – an ambitious self-promoter with a social justice agenda,” Cohen wrote. “Now Americans are getting a chance to see what the couple are really about and the fairytale, replete with evil in-laws and half-siblings, is wearing thin. Over the past few days, US headlines have been crying fury, and this can be expected to feed through to general opinion.”

Cohen went on to blast Harry for describing the First Amendment as being “bonkers” in an interview earlier this month.

“It doesn’t seem yet to have dawned on Harry that whether or not he’s representing his birth country, criticizing his host country is unlikely to bring him many admirers there,” Cohen said.

Cohen concluded his piece by saying that there will always be those who “passionately defend the fallen royal couple no matter their behavior”.

“But with each new muddled Sussex observation, unsubstantiated claim and disloyal act, ever more Americans will come to realise that the couple’s failures rest on their own shoulders rather than on the British nation or the institution of monarchy,” he made sure to add.

This comes after a source said that Queen Elizabeth, 94, is “deeply upset” by what she considers a series of “very personal” attacks on her family by her grandson.

“Harry’s grandmother has taken this very personally and is deeply upset by what Harry has said, in particular his comments about Charles’s parenting and suggesting his father knows no better because of how he was brought up,” the source said, according to Daily Mail. It has been a very upsetting time”
