When Tyfanee Fortuna took in a 2-year-old foster Chihuahua named Prancer, she had no idea she would soon come to refer to him as “demonic.” The woman took to Facebook on April 7th about how she’s been struggling to come up with an adoption description that would at least make the dog sound “palatable,” but couldn’t do so and be honest about the dog at the same time.

“I’ve tried for the last several months to post this dog for adoption and make him sound… palatable,” she wrote. “The problem is, he’s just not. There’s not a very big market for neurotic, man hating, animal hating, children hating dogs that look like gremlins.

But I have to believe there’s someone out there for Prancer, because I am tired and so is my family. Every day we live in the grips of the demonic Chihuahua hell-scape he has created in our home.”

Fortuna went on to explain that when Prancer first came to her home, he was too timid to do anything but cower from everyone. She said that his previous owner was an elderly woman who never socialized the pup, so he was extremely unfriendly, especially towards anyone who wasn’t a woman.

“Prancer only likes women. Nothing else. He hates men more than women do, which says a lot. If you have a husband don’t bother applying, unless you hate him. Prancer has lived with a man for 6 months and still has not accepted him.”

“He bonds to a woman/women, and takes his job of protection seriously. He offers better protection than capitol security. This also extends to other animals.”

Regarding how Prancer gets along with other animals, Fortuna made it clear he would not tolerate a family where he has to share space with any other four-legged creature, referencing “The Office” to make her point.

“We have somewhat come to an agreement that it’s wrong to attack the other animals,” she explained. “But you know that episode of ‘The Office’ where Michael Scott silently whispers ‘I’ll kill you’ to Toby? That’s Prancer having to begrudgingly coexist with everyone when I’m around.”

Prancer is located in Morris Plains, NJ, through the Second Chance Pet Adoption League. Stephanie Pearl who is a representative from the shelter spoke with TODAY and said while there have been many inquiries about adopting Prancer, the shelter wants him to go to a local home so the potential family can meet the little rascal before committing to his adoption.

“We have had lots of lovely well-meaning people inquiring, and we hope that every one of them goes to their local shelter or rescue and opens their home to a needy dog like Prancer… well maybe not just like Prancer, but there are so many homeless dogs in need,” she said.

Stephanie Pearl went on to say that their shelter specializes in finding homes for difficult-to-place animals, and hopes Prancer’s fame will encourage others to take a chance on other animals like him.

“No matter what personality, breed, size, age you are looking for, you can find your match in a shelter or rescue somewhere!” she wrote in an e-mail to TODAY.

“And consider being a foster home! Prancer is only alive, adored, and now scarily famous today because his foster mom stepped and up and rescued him to keep him out from being euthanized or brought to a shelter where his unique, um, ‘attitude’ may not have been understood or appreciated.”
