60-year-old Robin Steiner has been a Cher fan for as long as she can remember. Her memory, though, is something she can’t depend on much anymore since she suffers from Alzheimer’s.

While her memories and reality come and go depending on the day, her love of Cher has been a constant in her life. Steiner’s daughter, Erica, called her mom a Cher “super fan,” and has been chronicling her mother’s journey with the dementia-inducing disease on social media.

Since becoming her mother’s full-time caregiver, Erica has used her social media accounts to draw attention to some of the memories which help keep her mother’s disease from completely eradicating her identity.

In 2020, Erica revealed on social media that her mother had an obsession with actor Ryan O’Neal’s 1970’s hit movie “Love Story.” As a result, Robin would kiss O’Neal’s picture goodnight every evening before bed. The 80-year-old actor was touched by the routine, and FaceTimed with Robin, much to Robin’s delight.

Erica decided to try her luck with her mom’s biggest celebrity obsession, who just happens to be superstar Cher. Her luck paid off and the performer arranged a FaceTime call with Robin on April 19.

Erica recorded the entire interaction which lasted about 8 minutes, and posted it to YouTube. In the caption she said “Cher is basically another caregiver in our house – her presence consistently calms my mom when she’s frustrated or sad,” TODAY said.

Erica told the singer that her mom knows every word to every song she’s recorded, and that her music is “like medicine” in their home.

During their conversation, Cher asked a Robin what her favorite song was, to which Robin responded “I Got You.” The multi-Platinum artists went on to share that she initially wasn’t a fan of the tune.

“Do you know what I told Sonny the first time I heard it? I said, ‘This is crap.’ When he was singing it, it didn’t sound the same as when we sang it together,” she said.

It took Robin a few minutes to finally comprehend that she was speaking love with one of her idols, and she eventually became overwhelmed by emotion saying “”I love you. I can’t do this, it’s too much.”

Erica isn’t sure she’ll be able to surprise her mom with anything more special than a conversation with Cher, but she’s looking forward to thinking of something. “I’ll definitely never be able top this … but it makes me want to try. I think John Travolta’s up next.”
