The Hollywood star Sharon Stone shocked her fans recently by revealing that she and her sister Kelly were sexually abused by her maternal grandfather Clarence Lawson as children. Now, Stone is revealing how she managed to heal after this devastating abuse.

Stone dropped this bomb in her new memoir “The Beauty of Living Twice,” explaining that her grandmother locked her and her sister in a room with their grandfather when they were toddlers, and he proceeded to molest then. The terrible secret of her abuse drove a wedge between her and her mother.

“I have felt rage and indignation, and I have responded with condescension and cruelty,” Stone wrote about dealing with her mother Dorothy. “Eventually I faced myself and stopped my relationship with her.”

Stone said that when her grandfather died when she was 14, she poked into his casket to ensure that he was really dead.

“I poked him, and the bizarre satisfaction that he was at last dead hit me like a ton of ice. I looked at [Kelly] and she understood; she was 11, and it was over,” Stone said.

Stone and her sister never spoke to each other about the abuse they suffered until they were in their 20s, and discussing their trauma has helped them to heal from it.

“Now that we have broken this vow of silence … we are present with one another. The real brutality is that it is decades later,” Stone admitted.

It took far longer than that for Stone and her mother, Dorothy, who claimed that she didn’t know about the abuse, to build a new relationship.

“I had to meet my mother as a person, separate from my childhood experiences and judgments of her, and know her from an adult perspective,” writes Stone. “Simply speaking this out loud to each other cleared the room and let us see one another. I saw a woman I never really knew, a brilliant woman who never had a chance to dream.”

Stone added that writing her memoir and reading it to her mother has helped their relationship even more. This was far from the only bomb that Stone dropped in her memoir, as she also talked about the stroke that nearly killed her in 2001, and a plastic surgeon allegedly giving her larger breasts than she wanted without her consent.
