Prince Harry was reportedly so “shocked” by the “frosty” reception the royal family gave him when he returned to the United Kingdom for Prince Philip’s funeral earlier this month that he may use it as a “convenient” excuse to not go back for a trip he’d planned for this summer, a royal expert is saying.

Harry flew back to the U.K. for the first time in over a year to attend the funeral of his 99 year-old grandfather Prince Philip, which took place on April 17. The Sun reported that royal expert Russell Myers said that Harry received a “frosty” reception from some royals upon his return there.

“Some quarters of the family did give him a frosty reception and perhaps that did shock him somewhat,” Myers said.

Harry had been set to return to the U.K. in July for the unveiling of a statue dedicated to his late mother Princess Diana at Kensington Palace. However, Myers believes both the supposed tensions combined with the birth of his baby girl, who is due around that time, may cause Harry to cancel the trip.

“I’m told that he could still be committed to coming and both camps are,” Myers said. “William and Kate will welcome him if he wants to come back.”

“But, one might wonder if his wife has just had a baby then it is usually all hands on deck,” the expert added. “I’m sure he could jump on a private jet and make a flying visit but will it be a convenient excuse that he doesn’t need to come over and face the family?”

Myers went on to say that once the family has some time to deal with Philip’s death, they “will start thinking about that [the Oprah Winfrey interview] a lot more carefully.

“But it might not be good news for Harry,” he continued.

Myers was referring to the explosive tell-all interview that Harry and his wife Meghan Markle did with Oprah Winfrey last month. During this interview, they made a series of shocking claim about the royal family, including that they were victims of racism from one family member that they refused to name.
