Meghan Markle was not able to attend Prince Philip’s funeral last Saturday, as doctors reportedly advised her that traveling from California to the United Kingdom was not a good idea, given the fact that she is about six months pregnant with her and Prince Harry’s second child.

Now, a source has come forward to claim that while they did not attend the funeral, Meghan and her nearly-2 year-old son Archie did talk to Queen Elizabeth before the service.

“Meghan spoke with Harry before his grandfather’s funeral,” a source told People Magazine. “Meghan and Archie also spoke with the Queen earlier this week.”

Harry traveled to the United Kingdom alone for the funeral, staying at Frogmore Cottage during his time there.

“Meghan and Harry have been in touch every day,” the source added. “She knows the trip to England has been difficult for Harry. He didn’t want to leave Meghan and Archie alone. Meghan has insisted to him every day though that they are fine. She hasn’t wanted him to worry.”

Harry, who went back to California on Tuesday, was reunited with his older brother Prince William after a difficult few months.

“It has been a very difficult time,” said a well-connected royal insider. “The Duke was the head of the family, and if there were any time they were going to come together, it’s now.”

It is unlikely that the brothers will see each other again until July, when they are set to reunite for the unveiling of a statue of their late mother Princess Diana at Kensington Palace.

“They’ve had massive input,” said a senior palace source. “It’s their project.”

It had previously been reported that Meghan’s thoughts were with the royal family in the days before the funeral.

“Although Meghan isn’t here, she is of course supporting Harry….her mind is very much on the situation over here,” said royal author Omid Scobie, who is a personal friend of Meghan’s, according to Page Six.

“We know that she’s supporting Harry in this very difficult week for him, but she’ll also be sad because this is also the loss of a family member for her. She grew very close to the queen and Prince Philip over the recent years. It was probably her strongest relationship within the family and those relations then get smaller this week,’ he added before the funeral. “It’ll be a sad day for her.”
