Last month, we reported that the Hollywood star Ashley Judd had shattered her leg and suffered nerve damage in a terrifying ape-tracking accident in the Congo in Africa. Ashley has since been flown back to the United States, where she is currently recovering from a grueling seven hour surgery.

Now, her country music star mother Naomi Judd has broken her silence to update fans on her daughter’s condition.

“She’s very courageous, and she’s healing,” Naomi said of Ashley during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen” on Thursday.

“It’s really hard to see her like this, but she lives next door,” she added. “So I’m going to go up and take her stitches out when we’re done because I used to be a nurse before I became a singer.”

Ashley, 52, has other family members to help her out as well, including her older sister Wynonna Judd.

“Wynonna lives over the hill — Wynonna’s right there,” Naomi added.

Ashley updated her fans on her condition last weekend, writing on Instagram, “I do not understand why what has happened has happened. I do understand I have been loved and helped enormously. I understand nights are a savage agony.”

The Hollywood star went on to thank her doctors and the Hughton Clinic “for seven hours of intensive, brilliant, inspired surgical work on my bones and nerve. It took stamina, focus, and humility to consult with some experts around the country, whom I also deeply thank (especially SMc).”

“Now, I am in the bosom of a stream of friends and family, too numerous to mention, who have caught me in their prodigious arms from this precipitous fall,” she continued. “They do for me what I cannot do for myself — prepare meals, shampoo my hair, and they also offer the deep spiritual direction and consolation of trying to begin to craft an arc of meaning and purpose,” the actress said. “They also offer and meet my need for quiet. I am lost and they are my shepherd’s staff.”

Ashley wrote this alongside a series of photos, including one showing Wynonna washing her hair. Wynonna had recently told Page Six that she had to look up “how to wash hair for someone who’s lying down in bed” after her sister texted her asking her to do so.

“Therein lies the job of a big sister right there.” Wynonna said with a laugh.
