Dr. Mehmet Oz, the renowned cardiothoracic surgeon and talk show host, is being hailed as a hero this week after saving the life of a man at the airport.

Oz, 60, reportedly assisted in savings the life of another 60 year-old man who had collapsed at Newark Liberty International Airport on Monday night. Oz was in baggage claim at the airport when he saw the man collapse.

“Last night, a man collapsed near me and my family after we arrived at Newark Airport. I performed CPR with the help of a Newark Port Authority police officer and cleared the man’s airway,” Oz told Fox News. “Thankfully, Newark Airport had a defibrillator nearby that we were able to use to save his life.”

“As a physician and a human being, it’s our responsibility to jump in when there’s a medical emergency. Another critical reminder of how important it is to take the time to learn how to do CPR and use a defibrillator. You could save a life,” he added.

ABC7 reported that Oz had been returning to New York from Florida with his wife and daughter when this happened. New York, Port Authority Police say officer Jeffrey Croissant was also at the airport, and he initially ran to the man, finding that he had no pulse. As he called for backup, Oz stepped in and got to work.

The man who had collapsed was foaming at the mouth, and he was also bleeding from his head due to the fall he had just suffered. Oz and the other authorities present managed to revive him with a defibrillator.

The man was rushed to a New Jersey hospital, where it was confirmed that he suffered a heart attack. He then went to the ICU for further testing, and Oz has remained in contact with his wife, as he wants to make sure he is alright.

This isn’t the first time that Oz has been in a situation like this. Back in 2013, he stepped up to help a man who had collapsed during a marathon in Salt Lake City, Utah. Oz had been hosting the event while wearing a red superhero cape, but he quickly dashed in to offer his assistance in helping the man when he went down.
