Last month, we reported that the golfing legend Tiger Woods had been in a serious car crash that left him requiring major surgery on his legs. Now, disturbing details about this car crash are coming to light.

In an affidavit obtained by Entertainment Tonight, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Johann Schloegl wrote that Woods was first discovered by a man who lives near the site of the accident in Rolling Hills Estates and heard the crash take place. The man who found Woods said that the 45 year-old golfing legend was unconscious when he found him, but he was awake by the time police arrived on the scene.

The affidavit states that Woods told deputies both at the scene of the crash and later at the hospital that he did not know how the crash happened and that he did not remember driving.

This all came to light in a statement of probable cause after Schloegl requested a search warrant be approved for the Genesis SUV’s data recorder, known as a black box.  He reportedly asked for data from Feb. 22 and Feb. 23, and the crash occurred at around 7 a.m. on Feb. 23.

“I believe the data will explain how/why the collision occurred,” Schloegl wrote in the affidavit.

After the crash, a source close to Woods, 45, said that he has a “long recovery ahead.”

“When he is healed enough, he will need other treatments, including physical therapy. But he is a fighter. If anyone can recover from this, it is him,” the source told People Magazine of Woods.

“He wore a seatbelt thankfully. Otherwise, he might not have made it,” the source added. “I’ve seen collisions that didn’t look as serious where the occupants were injured much more severely. I think that’s just a testament to the fact that he was wearing a seatbelt, airbags worked as intended.”

Another source said that Woods “doesn’t want his career to end like this,” adding, “So if there’s any way at all that he can continue playing golf, he will.”

“He expected 2021 to be the year of his comeback. Obviously, that’s not going to happen now. And that’s disappointing to him,” the insider continued. “This is a massive setback and he knows that it’s a massive setback but he’s overcome obstacles in the past and thinks he can do it again.”
