Last month, we reported that CBS announced that the sitcom “Mom” will be ending after the current eighth season. Now, star Allison Janney is opening up about why she feels the beloved show was cancelled.

“I’m sad. I wish we had at least another year for the writers to have that much time to ramp up to the ending,” she confessed to late night host James Corden. “We sort of found out sooner than we thought we would hear. We thought, ‘Surely they’re going to want more Mom.’ And they decided not.”

Janney went on to discuss why exactly she believes that the sitcom was not renewed.

“There are so many reasons behind that, most of them probably money,” she said. “But I know that [creator] Chuck Lorre is writing the final episode, and we’re now filming the third to last episode and, you know, I’m having a lot of moments where I’m just standing on set, taking it in and looking at all the faces I’ve looked at for eight years.”

As she reflected on the years she’s spent bonding with the cast and crew, Janney said, “No matter how much I prepare myself for it, I know I’m just going to be tears, buckets of tears. Because it’s just been so incredible.”

The final episode of “Mom” is set to air on May 6. After the show’s cancellation was announced, Janney took to Instagram to say that it was “one of the great honors” of her career to play Bonnie.

“Getting to be part of MOM these past 8 years…showing the laughter, love and hope that can come with recovery, has been one of the great honors of my life,” Janney wrote.

She went on to thank executive producers Chuck Lorre, Gemma Baker and Nick Bakay, along with the writing staff “for giving us these wonderfully flawed and lovable characters to bring to life.” Janney then thanked her co-stars Mimi Kennedy, Jaime Pressly, Kristen Johnston, Beth Hall and William Fichtner, whom she called “amazingly talented actors I got to act with everyday!!!”

Janney showed that there is no bad blood between her and Faris by thanking her by name, as well as the crew for making “it a joy to come to work.”

“And last but not least all of our extraordinary fans!!! Thank you for all of your support over the years,” Janney concluded.
