The singer Gwen Stefani got some very good news this week after her annulment from her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale was “finally granted” by the Catholic Church, according to a source.

“Gwen was told the decision was made by the Vatican tribunal,” the insider told US Weekly. “She will be receiving the notification in writing in the next few weeks, but it’s official.”

“It was a huge relief for Gwen because she wanted to get married by her priest and have the marriage recognized by the Catholic church,” the source added.

It was first reported in 2019 that Stefani had started “the formal process” to have her marriage to Rossdale annulled because “religion has always been extremely important to her.” Earlier last year, however, it was reported that Stefani’s feelings had “changed” about waiting to marry Shelton, 44, until the annulment had gone through.

“COVID-19 has turned their world upside down, as it has with so many families. Gwen knows she is blessed and wants to have the wedding as soon as social distancing guidelines are lifted,” an insider said. “Gwen wants to have a ceremony and reception with their family and friends.”

Shelton proposed to Stefani back in October, but she said their wedding planning is currently on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We have no plans because of the pandemic,” she said. “It’s like, ‘Blake, why couldn’t you have done it before? Now we can’t have a wedding with the pandemic.’ [I’m] sitting around going, ‘OK. Drag it out more.'”

After Shelton’s proposal was revealed to the public, a source told Entertainment Tonight that Stefani had been wanting him to propose for awhile.

“Gwen has been ready to tie the knot for a long time and Blake knew this was the perfect time,” the source explained. “Blake has been the one who wanted to take it slow in the beginning but recently he decided it was time.”

“During the pandemic, they’ve had lots of downtime together and he truly saw the importance of spending life with the person you love,” the source continued. “Gwen takes marriage very seriously and was disappointed that her first marriage [to Gavin Rossdale] didn’t work out. She wasn’t in a hurry because she wanted to ensure Blake was ready.”
