Back in October, country music star Blake Shelton finally proposed to his girlfriend Gwen Stefani on his Oklahoma ranch after five years of dating. While Stefani is ecstatic to be engaged, she has one reason that she wishes that Shelton popped the question sooner.

While appearing on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon,” Stefani admitted that

“It was actually pretty magical. Wasn’t expecting it at the moment it happened at all. Didn’t have any idea,” Stefani said, going on to talk about her feelings before the proposal.

“I was sort of like, ‘What’s happening with us?'” she confessed. “It was kind of in my mind, like, ‘We’ve been together a long time now. What’s going on?’ I was in that place in my head.”

Stefani, 51, unfortunately added that the wedding planning has been put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. This is why she wishes that Shelton, 44, had proposed to her a bit sooner.

“We have no plans because of the pandemic,” she said. “It’s like, ‘Blake, why couldn’t you have done it before? Now we can’t have a wedding with the pandemic.’ [I’m] sitting around going, ‘OK. Drag it out more.'”

After Shelton’s proposal was revealed to the public back in October, a source told Entertainment Tonight that Stefani had been wanting him to propose for awhile.

“Gwen has been ready to tie the knot for a long time and Blake knew this was the perfect time,” the source explained. “Blake has been the one who wanted to take it slow in the beginning but recently he decided it was time.”

“During the pandemic, they’ve had lots of downtime together and he truly saw the importance of spending life with the person you love,” the source continued. “Gwen takes marriage very seriously and was disappointed that her first marriage [to Gavin Rossdale] didn’t work out. She wasn’t in a hurry because she wanted to ensure Blake was ready.”

Another source told US Weekly that Shelton asked Stefani’s sons – Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, 6 – for permission before he popped the question.

“Blake told her boys that he wanted to propose and asked their permission,” said a source close to Stefani. “Her family very much approves of him. He’s an amazing partner and a great extra dad to the boys. Gwen is ecstatic. The proposal was a surprise.”
