An elderly couple from Kentucky celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on Tuesday by getting the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

People Magazine reported that Noel “Gene” Record and Virginia Berryman Record got vaccinated during a drive-up event at the University of Cincinnati Health, becoming one of the first patients at the Ohio hospital to get the shot under the state’s Phase 1B plan, which allows people over the age of 65 to get the vaccine. Like all of us, Noel and Virginia are eager for life to get back to normal so that they can return to doing what they love.

“We want to get back to normal as soon as possible,” said Noel, 93. “I’m a square dance caller, and we have not been able to get together since March.”

“We’re looking forward to people getting vaccinated and getting back to normal, where we can once again square dance and have fun again,” he continued.

The couple is scheduled to return to the University of Cincinnati Health early next month to receive their final dose, something that Virginia is very excited about.

“[Getting] back to our normal life,” she said simply upon receiving dose number one.

While we all are excited fr this pandemic to be over, health officials have advised people to continue social distancing and wearing masks even after getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

“There’s still a question of if the vaccine stops transmission of COVID, or just stops people from getting symptomatic COVID,” infectious disease clinical researcher Laurel Bristow said earlier this month. “That’s something that is being looked at right now, so we want to operate under the assumption, just out of pure safety, that vaccinated people could still get asymptomatic COVID and spread it to others.”

This comes after we reported that Queen Elizabeth, 94, and Prince Philip, 99, had each gotten the COVID-19 vaccine earlier this month.

“My grandparents have had the vaccine and I am very proud of them for doing that,” their grandson Prince William said after they got vaccinated. “It is really important that everyone gets the vaccine when they are told to.”

Given the fact that people over the age of 90 are high risk for complications due to COVID-19, it’s good that the Queen and her husband as well as the square dancing Noel and Virginia have been among the first to get vaccinated.
