A woman from Tucson, Arizona is showing the world the ripple effect that one act of kindness can have in a truly beautiful way.
Knowing what a difficult year 2020 has been for everyone, Nora Briggs decided to reach out to the Salvation Army to see if she could help one family in need.
“I said I want to keep a family in their house,” she told KOLD.
Briggs ended up paying several months-worth of rent for a single parent with four children. Not stopping there, she even bought Christmas presents for the family as well.
“It just gave me so much joy and excitement about Christmas since I can’t be with my family in Virginia,” she explained. “It was just fantastic to have this happen.”
When her neighbors, Patricia Waddell and Lynn Foshee, saw what she had done, they were inspired to carry out an act of kindness of their own.
“When we heard Nora’s story and felt her joy really about giving, it was very exciting to us,” Waddell said.
Waddell and Foshee then decided to follow Briggs’ lead, and they stepped up to pay the rent of another single parent also facing eviction.
“You don’t have to take it on all yourself,” Foshee said. “If you have five friends that can all chip in and pay someone’s rent. It’s a great thing.”
And the acts of kindness did not stop there! Briggs had a friend in Texas who also got wind about her act of kindness. This friend was then inspired to contact her own Salvation Army, and she went on to pay the rent of someone in her community.
“I hope more people take up the mantle and decide they can personally be empowered to help,” Waddell said.
This just goes to show how one small act of kindness can turn into so many more. Sometimes, even something so small as asking how someone else’s day is can lead to a ripple effect that turns into bigger and bigger acts of kindness being carried out.
After how trying this year has been, it’s easy to forget that there are still good people out there doing kind things for others. God bless Briggs and her friends for showing us all that there is still good in the world!
