Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow recently paid a visit to a homeless shelter in Phoenix, Arizona to donate fifty pairs of shoes to veterans. When he realized he did not have enough, he proceeded to give away the shoes he was wearing, right off his feet!

Tebow took the time to visit the St. Vincent de Paul shelter, telling staffers there that he’d wanted to give back to the community by spending time with the people who live there. He even brought along fifty brand new pairs of shoes for the guests of the facility, much to everyone’s joy.

At the end of his visit, Tebow was told that there were more homeless people there who had not been giving shoes. This did not sit well with the former Heisman Trophy winner, so he took his own shoes right off his feet and handed them over to a guest on his way out. Not stopping there, Tebow also wrote down a list of people that didn’t get shoes during his visit, and then sent them all a pair through the homeless shelter.

“If you ask me, or many of our guests, Tim has gone from professional athlete to Super Hero in just a few years,” Steve Zabilski, Chief Executive Officer of St. Vincent de Paul, told ABC15. “His actions off the field are as impressive as any last-minute touchdown pass, or game-winning home run. I think we all can agree on that.”

Tebow has made helping others a major focus of his life through his charity, the Tim Tebow Foundation.

“The Christian faith is about loving Jesus and loving people, and that is what we are trying to do with this foundation and all of our outreaches,” Tebow said in his foundation’s mission statement. “Whether it is spending a weekend encouraging a child with a life threatening illness through a W15H, helping a family adopt an international child with special needs, crowning kings and queens of the prom, or by showing God’s love through our four other outreaches, our goal is to let people know that God loves them and that they are worthy.”

“We would not be able to accomplish our mission without God’s blessings and the support of our generous donors and partners. I hope that you will explore our site to see what we have been able to do,” he added. ‘We hope that you will consider joining our team through prayer and financial support to help change lives. Together we WILL make a difference!”
