Betty White is a legendary Hollywood star who will be turning 99 next month. In a recent interview, she opened up about her secret to living such a long life, and what she had to say certainly is not what fans were expecting!

White told Parade Magazine that one of her main secrets is focusing on enjoying life at all times.

“I know it sounds corny, but I try to see the funny side and the upside, not the downside. I get bored with people who complain about this or that. It’s such a waste of time,” she said. “Accentuate the positive, not the negative. It sounds so trite, but a lot of people will pick out something to complain about, rather than say, ‘Hey, that was great!’ It’s not hard to find great stuff if you look.”

As for what she eats that contributes to her longevity, White said that she loves vodka and hot dogs, “probably in that order.”

White has a career in Hollywood that dates all the way back to the 1940s, and she is best known for starring in television shows like The Golden Girls and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. When asked if she had any advice for young actors trying to make it big, White said, “Do your work, learn your lines and come in prepared. Don’t think you can wing it, because you can’t. We’re in show business, which is fun, but take your business seriously, because it is a serious business.”

These days, White feels that the entertainment industry is “in good hands” with a new generation of funny women (and men), leaving her hopeful for the future.

“I think the business is in pretty good shape; I don’t have to fix it,” she said with a smile. “I will, but I don’t have to.”

Unlike many older people, White doesn’t like to spend much time reminiscing about the past.

“I don’t have time to miss much, because I’m still working,” she explained. “I just love to work, so I’ll keep working until they stop asking.”

As for how she wants to be remembered, White said, “I hope they remember something funny. I hope they remember a laugh.”
