An anonymous Secret Santa just gave his community the Christmas gift of a lifetime when he paid off $65,000 in layaway items at a Walmart in Bristol, Tennessee.

Walmart announced that the donation of $64,995.51 was enough to cover the store’s entire layaway balance.

“I got a notification on my email that my layaway had been paid for,” said shopper Lloyd Leonard. “And I thought ‘well that’s kind of weird.'”

Leonard went on to say that employees explained to him that the anonymous donor had paid off his layaway expenses.

“She said yeah somebody came in this morning at 6 o’clock and paid everybody’s layaway,” Leonard told WJHL. “But he wants me to tell you that he loves you, God bless you and Merry Christmas.”

April Hilliard is another shopper whose layaway was paid off, and she was incredibly touched by the gesture of kindness.

“The emotional type that I am, I just broke. I just started crying,” she said of the moment she found out.

“It’s especially touching when customers pay off others’ layaways during the holiday season and serves as another example of the generosity our customers show year-round,” Kris Light, the manager of the Walmart, said in a statement. “We’re honored to play a small role in these acts of kindness and we love seeing the joy it brings to our customers this time of year.”

The Walmart added that the donor wanted to remain anonymous,  and that he would only say that he wanted to positively impact the lives of as many people as possible. After how difficult this year has been on everyone, the act of kindness resonated with the community in a huge way right when they needed it most.

“That restores my faith,” Hilliard said. “It’s like a Christmas miracle. He’s Santa, that’s what he is. He’s a Santa to everyone here.”

After the trainwreck year that was 2020, it’s easy to forget that there are still good people out there doing kind things for others. God bless this anonymous Secret Santa for going above and beyond to help his community, and for restoring our faith in humanity in the process!
