Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey has broken his silence to respond after Kate Hudson said that every time she had to kiss him in one of the movies they appeared in, something got in the way.

“The thing is, every time I kiss McConaughey, it’s like, I mean, it’s like there’s just something happening and there’s like snot or wind, or things are just… like when we were kissing in the end of ‘Fool’s Gold,’ we’re like in the ocean, we like had the plane crash,” she said, referring to their 2008 movie. “He just had snot all over his face.”

In a new interview with Yahoo News, McConaughey agreed that their kissing scenes in this movie did not go well.

“It’s like, ‘OK, here’s the scene: You’ve just jumped from the helicopter. You’re in the middle of the ocean. You go under the water, so on action, go into the water and then come up out of the water like you’re gasping for air,’” McConaughey said as he imitated a member of the crew. “’You’re glad to be alive! Then you look at each other and you swim to each other and [go] into an embrace.”

This turned out to be no easy task, however.

“Well, there’s a lot of salt water and snot and all kinds of stuff that are in between those, and so you’re doing that and you’re like, OK, I think that worked, but did that look any good?” McConaughey said. “[They’re] like, no, we better do another take. So there were always, like, elements that made it harder… We never got to have our nice romantic kiss, yeah.”

“So many of our… Kate and I’s kisses have been awkward,” the Academy Award-winner added. “We’re still like, hey, can we ever get a kiss where it’s just like the temperatures, right? The ocean’s not wiping us away? Nobody’s dropping stuff on us, above our head?”

Fox News reported that the actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who had been interviewing Hudson when she made her initial comments, said that she’s had similar experiences on film sets. She added that kissing her Iron Man co-star Robert Downey Jr. felt more like kissing a family member.

“Like with Robert, like when I kissed him and I was like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me,'” Paltrow said. “This is literally like kissing my brother.”
