The Hollywood stars Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have been together for 37 years, an impressive and rare feat in the entertainment industry, where relationships between actors rarely seem to be able to stand the test of time.

In a new interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Hawn opened up about what made her fall in love with Russell when they met while filming the 1984 movie Swing Shift.

“I love the way he looked at my children,” explained Hawn, 75. “It was really something special. He’s good at that. He’s good with kids. And I kind of went, ‘Oh my God, this is amazing.'”

Hawn was dating another man at the time, and she admitted that she had to dump him over the phone so that she could be with Russell.

“Yeah, that was hard,” she confessed. “That was hard, because I had to call him and tell him we were done and that I found somebody and I’m so sorry. And I think you had kind of a girl you were seeing too, and I don’t know, but it was really interesting, because I fell in love but I also fell in like. And those are two pretty good deals.”

As for Russell, the 69 year-old actor recalled meeting Hawn for the first time after a long night on the town with his father. The first thing he ever said to her ended up being a complement on her figure.

“The first thing I saw was Goldie and immediately I just came out and said, ‘Wow you got a great figure,'” he remembered. “I never associated that with Goldie, and she kind of looked at me and smiled and I said, ‘Let’s sit down and go to work and talk about it.'”

Before long, the couple were madly in love, and they even soon put a humorous sign up on the door of their trailer on set.

“If this trailer’s rockin’, don’t bother knockin!” Hawn recalled it saying. Russell chimed in to add, “It was a joke!”

Hawn and Russell are currently promoting their new Netflix movie The Christmas Chronicles 2, in which they play Mr. And Mrs. Claus. The film is set to be released by Netflix on Wednesday, November 25.
