Donny Osmond has been in show business for over 50 years, so the 62 year-old knows a thing or two about the highs and lows that come with fame. This week, Osmond is opening up about some of the downsides of finding fame as a child star, something his fellow singer Justin Bieber opens up about with his new song “Lonely.”

“I can really relate because I’ve been through it and I came out through the other end of the tunnel and I admire Justin because he’s changed his life,” Osmond told People Magazine.

Osmond was only a small child when his family found fame in the 1970s performing on various different shows as a music group. Though he enjoyed performing, Osmond also remembers “crawling up into a ball” and “crying my eyes out really from loneliness.”

“So I know what Justin’s going through, what he’s been through. And it was at that time in my life, I thought I need to take care of myself,” he added.

Bieber delves into the downsides of fame with his new song “Lonely,” in which he sings, “Everybody knows my past now/Like my house was always made of glass/And maybe that’s the price you pay/For the money and fame at an early age.”

Osmond agreed that the “hysteria and people screaming your name” can take a toll on a person.

“And you go back to pure silence and you’re so alone, you can’t go out,” he explained. “You can’t show your face, you can’t do anything.”

Osmond can also relate to Bieber in that his love life played out for all to see as well. Though he’s been married to his wife Debbie Glenn since 1978, Osmond can remember when they were “secretly” dating at the start of their relationship.

“I didn’t want anybody to know,” he said. “We just celebrated 42 years and she saved my life.”

Osmond pointed out that Bieber is also married, and that it’s clear to him that the 26 year-old “wants to focus on the relationship with his wife.”

These days, Osmond is still as busy as ever with his own career. Last year, he and his sister Marie shocked fans when they ended their Las Vegas residency after eleven years. However, Caesars Entertainment has just announced that Osmond will be returning this summer with a brand new show, which he is looking forward to.

“The show that I’m going to put on is going to have an intimate feel to it,” Osmond said.
