Back in June, the singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson shocked her fans when she filed for divorce from her husband of seven years, Brandon Blackstock. This week, she opened up about her divorce like never before in an interview alongside her fellow “The Voice” judge Gwen Stefani, who she connected to through their shared heartbreak.

“It’s just one day when you’re like, ‘Wow, this has forever changed and it’s not just my heart has changed, there’s other little hearts, too,'” Clarkson told EXTRA of the moment she realized her marriage was over.

Clarkson and Blackstock are the parents of two children: River Rose, 6, and Remington Alexander 4.

Stefani, who managed to find love again with her fellow “The Voice” judge Blake Shelton after divorcing Gavin Rossdale, said, “Kelly and I have been talking about this a lot. We’re so lucky to have music as an outlet for everything we all go through… Music is such therapy when you’re a writer.”

“Why do you feel you need to be so transparent and what does it feel like when you get the support you receive?” Clarkson was asked.

“I have a great family and friends that are there for me… It’s a very hard thing to navigate, to be able to be honest and share your story, so maybe you can help someone else, but at the same time protecting these little kids you adore,” she replied.

“We have a lot of help as far as therapists or child psychologists ‘cause we want to do it right… Everyone’s sad and it’s okay to be sad,” Clarkson added.

Stefani chimed in to applaud Clarkson, saying that she is holding everything together well.

“You’re doing a really good job,” Stefani said. “I think it’s hard to be a public person. Now you add in a family… they didn’t choose it.”

Moving on from this subject, both women shared their strategies going into this season of “The Voice.”

“The strategy for me every season is just: beat Blake,” Clarkson said, with Stefani adding, “Well, I haven’t won yet… I think with Blake he’s spoiled, he just sort of takes it for granted because he has been on for 19 seasons… I just feel he needs to be destroyed… He needs a little reality check, and I would be happy to do that for him.”
