Zachery Ty Bryan, a former child star who was best known for starring on the sitcom “Home Improvement,” was arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly strangling his girlfriend.
Entertainment Tonight reported that Bryan was arrested at 1:01am in Eugene, Oregon on three charges: strangulation, fourth-degree assault and interfering with making a report. He was booked into Lane County Jail, where he remains at the time of this writing.
“On Oct. 16 at approximately 10:24 p.m., Eugene Police officers were dispatched to report of a physical dispute at a north Eugene home after neighbors called,” said a rep for the Eugene Police Department. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Bryan “sitting outside an apartment. The victim, age 27, was at a neighboring apartment.”
“An investigation found that during the dispute Bryan is reported to have assaulted the victim, impeded her breathing, and taken the victim’s phone from her when she tried to call 911. The two have been in a relationship,” the rep continued. “The victim declined medics. Bryan was taken into custody without incident and lodged at the Lane County Jail on charges of strangulation (APA), assault in the fourth degree (APA), and interfering with making a report.”
Daily Mail reported that this comes just two weeks after Bryan separated from his wife of fourteen years. The two had four children together before Bryan announced that they had separated on October 1.
His girlfriend reportedly told police that the two of them had been arguing when he wrapped his hands around her neck and squeezed. When she tried to call 911, she claimed that Bryan tried to grab her phone away from her, and that she eventually had to run across the street to hide from him.
Hours before he was arrested, Bryan posted a photo of himself with four women in what appears to be a nightclub. A bottle of vodka can be seen in front of the group, as can a bucket of Red Bulls.
“Good night,” Bryan captioned the image.
Bryan is best known for starring as Brad Taylor, the oldest son of Tim Allen’s character Tim Taylor, in “Home Improvement.” He is also known for his movie True Heart and for appearing on shows like “Cold Case,” “E.R.,” “Smallville” and “Veronica Mars.”
